In late April, Artslink went into voluntary administration, its office closed and staff let go. Artslink, formerly the Queensland Arts Council was responsible for delivering the Queensland schools touring program, administering the Regional Arts Fund (RAF) and running cultural development programs such as Animating Spaces. Additionally a membership network of more than 40 community arts councils around Queensland relied on Artslink for public liability insurance and other forms of support.
A number of interim measures have been implemented to support these core services as the sector and government consider a way forward. Queensland Music Festival will manage the remaining schools touring program for 2016 and Arts Queensland will manage the remaining two rounds of RAF and the public liability insurance needs of arts councils.
In the coming months, the Queensland Arts Advocacy Group will work closely with the sector and each level of government to develop a positive, sector-lead response to the situation. arTour is pleased to be involved in this process and committed to ensuring a vibrant touring network across regional communities.
We’ll continue to keep our network up to date as discussions progress and make you aware of any opportunities to have your say.
