... a MUST for anyone wanting to tour Queensland and participate in Queensland Touring Showcase 2016 and Roadcase.
In March 2016, producers and presenters will come together at Queensland Touring Showcase to exchange ideas, network, and plan tours for regional communities. Following this, a series of Roadcase events will extend the Showcase process to meet the programming needs of local arts councils, festivals and regional councils.
Understanding how these two events are connected and how to make the most of your experience, is a great advantage to convert presenter interest into touring outcomes.
The Touring Forum will provide information needed by Artists and Producers to understand the complete Showcase picture including submitting a production, the selection process and the intended outcomes as well as outlining some of the important changes to next year’s event.
Producers will also meet and hear from two regional presenters to get a first hand understanding of the touring landscape from the perspective of a managed venue in Toowoomba and a community presenter from Hughenden. Kerry Saul from the Empire Theatre and Melissa Driscoll previously from Hughenden Shire Council will share their presenting experiences, discuss what works well in their communities and answer questions about touring, presenting and performing in regional Queensland.
Following this join the arTour team for two hands on workshops on Budgeting and setting your sell off fee as well as Marketing and articulating your audience and key selling point. This is your chance to ask questions specifically about your production in preparation for submitting it to the arTour website.
For those Producers and Artists with little or no touring experience, a special preliminary New to Touring Sessionwill be held just before the forum (1pm to 1.30pm). We will cover some 'Touring 101' so you know the basics before joining the rest of the discussions.
So, if you’re wanting to know what presenters are looking for or how to frame your approach, the Touring Forum is an important first step.
