Production Applications for Showcase and Roadcase

Queensland Touring Showcase is a platform for producers and artists to build and maintain relationships with Queensland’s presenters and venues. Managed Venues and Local / Shire Councils of various sizes will be in attendance.  By aligning Showcase with the Arts Ablaze conference program we have maximised possibilities for your production to meet these presenters' 2021 programming needs.

Please remember, if you are selected to pitch at Showcase you will still need to register for the event and pay registration fees. Registration will open on 30 May 2019, please review the registration fees below.

Roadcase is where the arTour team visit several regional and remote locations across Queensland to facilitate the pitching process on your behalf. Roadcase is designed specifically for smaller regional and remote councils, arts councils, and regional festivals to access your productions and is an extension of the Showcase process. Watch our video on Roadcase for producers. The next Roadcase will be held in February 2020.

You only need to apply once to be considered for either or both events and the arTour team along with the selection panel will consider your production’s suitability for Showcase and Roadcase.  Please consider carefully the type of show you want to pitch and understand the types of presenters in Queensland.

Who can apply

Queensland Artists and Producers (independents, organisations, major companies) are encouraged to apply.  We also encourage producers living in regional Queensland, Indigenous producers and artists of diversity to submit proposals.  Artforms can range from theatre, dance, music, cabaret, circus. If your show is ready to tour in 2021 then we’d love to hear from you.

Interstate Producers and Artists (from states other than Queensland) are also encouraged to apply.  These submissions will be assessed on demand demonstrated for the work and the relationship building potential of their attendance at Showcase.  Please note that the Playing Queensland Fund invests in Queensland-based artists and groups and is open to Queensland based applicants only. If based interstate, you may wish to look at other models to fund your touring costs or seek support from respective state and/or national touring funds. Please call arTour if you require further information or clarification with regards to available funding and touring pathways.

Production applications should be able to demonstrate the following

Rigour / Quality
The production is well conceived and put together.  Please consider artform development or audience engagement / access that is unique and/or effective.

The production and engagement offerings sit apart from and are different to other shows of a similar ilk or form.  What makes your production Distinct? Please consider your approach to storytelling, form and adaptability to different presenting contexts such as festivals and annual programs.

The production will have strong appeal to a well-defined audience segment or demographic.  It may consider audience development opportunities, boutique tastes right through to broad crossover appeal.

The production is tour ready for touring in 2021, is reasonably priced and represents a sound programming investment for presenters as well as the producer’s capacity.

Frequently asked Questions

Can I apply for both Showcase and Roadcase?
Yes and you can submit more than one production.  Please ensure that your production is suited to the type of presenters and venues that attend each platform.

Do I apply if I am pitching at 2019 PAX at Caloundra?

You are not required to apply as Queensland based presenters at Showcase will have already seen your work pitched in August, unless you would like your production considered for Roadcase.

You are welcome to apply however if you see the opportunity to deepen your connection to Queensland presenters and venues at Showcase to further your productions touring potential OR if you have a different work that is suitable to pitch.

I already have interest from Queensland venues through various means, what should I do?
You are more than welcome to apply.  Queensland Touring Showcase is all about providing you a platform to deepen your connection to Queensland presenters and venues to further your productions touring potential. We recommend making a note of this interest in the Showcase section of your application.

Can I call you and chat through your project.
This should be one of the first things you do after reading through these guidelines and familiarising yourself with the application form.  Remember, we are here to help you and want to hear from you. Please call Steve Mayhew (Creative Broker) 07 3872 9042 or 0414 585 367 between 10am and 4pm.

How do I complete the budget?
Touring budgets always seem to trip people up.  At the very basic, we need you to know how many people will be on tour and what is going on tour with you.  We would really appreciate it if you talk to us about your budget before you submit. You can also view this resource to help.

Do I need to provide a video?
In short YES PLEASE.  Promo videos or show reels are by far the best and easiest way to get an idea of your project.  If you don't submit a video with your application, your project is less likely to be considered.

Both Showcase and Roadcase pitches will require a short 1 – 2 minute video from you as a part of your pitch.  Think of it as a long form commercial that gives people a quick understanding of the special qualities contained in your offering and leaves people wanting more.

How many submissions do you usually get and how many pitching spots are there for this years Showcase?
Your submission will be one of many to be considered – we had over 100 to consider last year and this year we will be choosing around 20 pitches for Showcase and an additional 15 for Roadcase, so make sure you're clear and concise and sending a consistent message throughout your application.

Think about your presenter’s pack, budget, tech specs and marketing kits.

I've submitted my show, what next?
Great work! The arTour team will review every application in detail and get back to you if we have any feedback on your application. Please note during production application process we'll be processing a high volume of production profiles so you may not hear from us immediately, rest assured we will be in contact and when your profile has been approved to go live you'll receive an automatic notification.

Once submissions close an independent panel comprising of producers and presenters will review all of the submissions and shortlist work to be considered at Queensland Touring Showcase and Roadcase. Approximately 20 productions will be invited to participate for each event. You will be notified by early July if your production is successful.

You should also consider how you intend to manage the development of a tour if sufficient interest is received through Queensland Touring Showcase and/or Roadcase. You might like to manage your own tour, discuss engaging arTour's services or seek assistance from another organisation or tour coordinator.
