The World Theatre is a council owned and operated venue, which includes MT LEYSHON AUDITORIUM - 650 raked fixed seating performing arts theatre with raised proscenium stage, side stage dressing rooms, green room, and basement rehearsal space with own dressing rooms, plus more. The Charters Towers community appreciates a wide variety of product - dance, musicals, live music, circus, comedy and cabaret. The main industries in the region are beef cattle, education and gold mining. Tourism and agriculture also play an important role. There are families with young children, annual Country Music festival; resident retirees plus grey nomads touring April to October; schools with good drama and music programs, and an art gallery in the foyer.
The audience demographic and attendance depends very much on the individual show and outside factors. anywhere from 30-660 have attended various shows. The official population of the region is around 12000, with approx 8000 in the town area.

Charters Towers is 130km/1 ½ hour drive from Townsville in North Qld. Accommodation is reasonably priced and nothing is more than 5 minutes away. There are no traffic lights , but now have roundabouts. Health Centre – approx 1km from venue. No 24 hr pharmacy.
